Very sad story.
Did the external experts search the area the body was recovered from I wonder? Won’t do their credibility much good if so…

Searching for anything in zero viz is not easy I’ve found from 30 plus years of experience in the diving game, a body stuck under branches or if it was still mobile,  it could easily evade detection until it’s eventually gassed up and floated then been spotted by a member of the public. Id not be critical  of the guys doing a finger tip zero viz search along a Jack stay on a muddy river bed as much as I would be of the whole police way of dealing with the publicity side of it and the media. Mind you everyone’s a bloody expert nowadays at everything.

I was only mentioning it as the boss of the company was very confident that there was definitely no body anywhere he searched with his specialist kit (sonar possibly?).
I can’t really think of a more horrendous job than trying to locate a body underwater in zero visibility and have nothing but admiration for anybody undertaking such a role. I’m not sure what would possess anybody to take a police diver role to be honest, they are certainly made of stronger stuff than I am.

Blue View type Sonar is great kit but has to be literally pointed in the right direction. Hopefully it’s the lady concerned and it can be dealt with for the families sake,  will we ever know all the details of how she got into the river( if it turns  out to be her) 🤷‍♂️Who knows.

I heard the police found her after a " tip off " . Could someone have put her in the river after the search was completed ?  The postmortem will confirm if she drowned or not . Also the police are now still searching the area . This makes me think that they are looking for evidence of the possibility of  someone putting her in the river .

It’s a tough gig for sure Dan.

I doubt they are ever called in to find anything nice.

No search is ever foolproof, especially in those conditions.

I can often fail to find my truck keys/vape/glasses etc. after a detailed search of my workbench, so it’s a bit of an ask in muddy, flowing and tidal conditions.

Simplest explanation is a tragic accident, but we may never know for sure.

RIP, anyway.

No tip off to the police, the body was seen by a local lad walking his dog, there is no formal ID as yet and i would say that will be tomorrow, we will all get to know who it was, but there was a lad in Lancaster called Dan Hives that went missing on 10th December, again by the river Lune and not the Wyre, never seen or heard of since ? it is quite possible this could be him yet and not Nicola as the Police have not said weather it was male or female ?, given the high tide time today at 10,25am and the hight off 9,4mtrs which is quite big along with a stiff SW wind for the last few days this body i would say has been out at sea and come up the river on the leading edge of the tide, Body was spotted floating at 11,35am !!!

Interesting.

Tragic, but nonetheless interesting to hear a local perspective.

Thanks for that. 👍
