All terrain or Mud tyres for 2wd

I know a guy who put some old jeep tyres on his truck. It was highly illegal and plain dangerous on wet roads, but that truck never got stuck anywhere. Being quite rural I guess he thought it was worth the risk not being pulled by the rozzers

On a dual wheel truck, has anyone put mud terrains on the insides and road tyres on the outsides? Perhaps the best of both worlds for performance and hides the probably unrated ones a bit. Sounds funny I know but so do lots of things that work.

The outer ones will stop the inner ones sinking enough to bite.

 

You should be able to find offroad tyres that will suit. The only way they would not be rated would be the load capacity, but all the tyres I've put on my pickup have been rated plenty sufficient for 1.5t per axle. Dual wheels you'd have no problems with load rating but you'd have to have a play to see what would fit together without the sidewalls touching.

Iirc, the four tyres across the back should all be the same for the MOT

I have never had dual wheels apart from on a lorry but are they not more prone to slipping on wet grass and/or mud?
