How about established members looking for free firewood? I always like a bit of firewood dropped off but I barter with a bit of fixing up kit or porting so I guess it isn't free but works for most.

Never mind firewood spud, with your reputation I imagine plenty would drop their wife off in return for a ported saw!

I reckon she could be very open minded 🤔have you discussed it yet? What’s sauce for the gander is sauce for the goose.

Seriously though there’s not many people these days who can saw logs into rings and chop the rings into useable firewood. They all want it handed to them in a bag.

Hi all, i'm a newbie to this forum, lived in countryside for most of my life, don't have a gas supply, electric is unreliable at best, the only heating we have is an old cheap half knackered cast iron wood burner that I restored, fitted then got certified many years ago.

please don't think we're all well off chav's with wood burners just because their fashionable (know there's loads of them ) , some of us are genuine normally people who need a bit of help with firewood.

I don't mean any offence by this post but thought it was important.

No offence taken, pointing out that 'cheap' log burning stoves aren't really as cheap as people think all things considered. 

 

 

 

Like you am outside of town, I can see the gas pipe - but they need 50m of trench and a river crossing for me to get it (I think it was £5k just to get a quote). My choice was electric heating or get a stove to lower the cost a bit. In 10 years of stove my direct costs are about £3500, plus it is multifuel so (at this weeks prices) £6000 in smokeless coal, plus whatever it costs me in time, and petrol to acquire those all so important free logs. If I was using kiln dried logs and not coal my fuel costs would be higher again, and I still have to use the electric for hot water and cooking. Certainly not as cheap as people would have you believe.

Plently of people about with woodburners from machine mart circa £300 etc and self installed some into unlined chinmeys no hetas involved etc

yep, thankfully the chimney's on outside of the wall & was lined with terracotta in good condition, had a bit of a fight getting such an old wood burner certified ( no serial numbers ), think Hetas certificate & carbon monoxide/ smoke alarms are a must.

And they are pretty much pants don't you think ?

Yes but still a big improvement on an open fire, but I  assume the lifspan V an expensive brand  one will be more limited and likely then are abit less efficient.
