Selling unseasoned firewood?

Eventually there will be a test case somewhere. The rules are in place, but it falls on the first case to see how it works in practice and if it's enforceable or the whole legality of the scheme thrown into doubt.

 

In the end I chose the simpler solution to just join the scheme and jump through the hoops, until they become too complicated or high.

I  still think enforcement will be near zero unless the council are funded for it.

 

Have the firewood police  actually fined anyone yet?

Farmers weekly quotes a fine of £300, which one would assume per sale.

 

Granted I've never actually seen a fine issued under smoke control regulations either.

 

Bit like dog fouling, think they issued 6 across my borough in one year.

So, as long as you are confident you can maintain a fine rate below once per year, it may be cheaper than registering with Woodsure.

Surely as he is selling logs to be dried by the buyer he doesn't need to register, as long as he covers himself by stating not to be burnt until dry, with a good paper trail.

In the original post, he's in Scotland so it's fine. In England it's the 2m rule regardless.

Turn up at the council office HQ with a sample log for trading standards?

If it were me, i would not give a stuff.. It is a crininal act to sell any sort of mechanical or electrical apparatus unless it is CE marked.

 

Now, take a look on Amazon, think any of the chinese crap is approved and CE marked?? Think the vendors are worried?? Do you think the people that buy this crap are worried??

 

Just sell your wood and be happy!!
