Smallish towing vehicle?

Liz does very few miles just for work. Worked it out last night at 1500 miles a year. My truck does around 5000 on average just for work. If we got an EV it would be that 5000 plus plenty of the domestic journeys which we currently do in Liz's car. Could probably keep the 4x4 miles below 2k per year if we make and effort to utilise an EV van.
 
Looking at the Maxus E-Deliver 3 drop sider. Not much about them yet but the panel van version has been going for a while and got pretty good feedback. We've got a ldv v80. It's been ok for the money but only because it was cheap. parts backup is a nightmare. 3 weeks to get a clutch kit in dealers

22mpg, around 11L/100km. When cruising in summer maybe 26mpg around 9L/100km. 

Heavy towing with tarp on huge trailer like 17L/100km. Tipping trailer with mesh guards and some Chips are like 13L/100km.

Another vote for any 2.8 diesel engined Mitzi Shogun/Delica/import l200 , engines and running gear are bomb proof. Spares are really cheap and available, they are also easy to maintain.

To put it in perspective, before the Shogun I had a Volvo V90 estate, last of the 'proper' Volvos. It was a 3 litre straight six petrol, 24 valve, auto box, rear wheel drive. Yes it was thirsty but it was comfortable, cavernous, towed like a tractor, went like the clappers, and held the road like a limpet. I bought it as a stop gap for a few months and it was so good I ended up keeping it for eight years.

 

The Shogun had none of those virtues yet somehow managed to be even less economical, and by some margin.
