None of my boots fit through the back handle, hence the attempted use of heel, I still manage best drop starting the bigger saws.

They teach the heel method in the basic crosscutting & felling, as those toecaps on the boots only fit in the cheeks of  butt 😬

I drop start all of mine, never done it any other way.. I pull out the rope until the sprags have engaged first and then drop start it as normal. Works for me..

Sorry 😁 but ‘drop starting’ a chainsaw just conjours up an image of a fat pikey (is there any other kind?) in shorts, holding the rope in one and and throwing the chainsaw with the other.

I start all my saws, even from cold by holding the handle between my legs.

I start by holding it in one hand and starting it with the other,

Three goes like that and the bastard gets a drop start, finger on the trigger, that’ll learn it!

Yes, that is a good method, i agree, but i have a rather unfortunate medical condition related to ones goolies, that means that the very last thing you want to do, is to put something between your legs, then yank a rope attached to it!!

I will add, it’s hard to start a top handed saw with your foot in the Handle of a saw whilst in a tree.

also whilst on the ground…so I start all my saws as I see fit, as I know what they need and like 😉
