i don't want to give the wrong impression, i have been using chainsaws fro a good while and i am careful, that's why i posted

 

just can't recall where ive seen it, but it involved making two cuts in the compressed face, then upcutting at one or the other sides to stop the stem collapsing:confused1:

Slippery, could you be thinking of the technique whereby you make several (4-5) spaced shallow cuts on the compression side to release some tension before making the tension side cut?
