I think the problem arises when people who have only ever used inboard clutch saws move to a husky and then wonder why the clutch cover won't come off. Tendency seems to be to yank and pry it rather than stop and think.

You hopefully only do it once.

So why won't it come off when you have released the brake? I definitely did. 100%. Not a shadow of a doubt.

Possibly the chain brake is broken and jamming. So the brake handle isn't actually releasing it.

Release the chain brake and undo the bar nuts?

😕

Is that the knack then?

I'm not a full time professional user and come on here to pick up these great tips from you guys. Once again I must give thanks to you all. :thumbup1:

Sorry for pushing my luck with your generosity but any chance you can tell me how to start it when it is hot?

Neither am i, far from it.

I just don't see how anyone has issues with getting the clutch cover off it. Mine comes off and goes on as easy as any other saw. Same for my other saws with outboard clutches. (T525 and T540 also have outboard clutches with the brake handle on the powerhead and the chainbrake in the clutch cover.)

Maybe your chainbrake is broken and doesn't have enough slack when released?

Most common issue is trying to remove the cover with the brake engaged and if you can get it off.....it won't go back on again until you have disengaged the brake.

I did this during my cs30/31 assessment.

The fella very graciously looked the other way whilst I unf*cked my f*ck up. I don't know if I should have in fact failed, or if I got extra marks for identifying my mistake and successfully correcting it.

My advice: don't do it.

My mate did this, I got it back off using snipe nose pliers, a screwdriver and some bad language  🙄 He is under orders not to do it again.

I have quite a few saws and can remove and replace the covers easy as anything but for some reason find the 550 particularly fiddly to get off, always have. :dontknow:
