I bought a Makita top handle and was under the impression they came with a 3 year warranty, if you register it?

Yes correct👍. I have the 18v and 36v top handle and 36v rear handle. The top handle seems to have more power than the rear handle. The 18v has more or less taken over from the Silky Sugoi..Hedgecutters have not been that reliable but worth it with the 3yr.warranty..

We've got the Milwaukee and it's a good little saw for keeping in the cab with the log trailer. It's not going to compete with a petrol saw but there's no fumes in the tractor and it starts first time so great for tidying up logs.

3 years warranty, it cuts reasonably fast and with a 12ah battery it lasts for a lot of cuts.

Bearings went on my 18V hedge cutter after 6 month or so but repalced them & its being fine since.

The 18V topper had the red overheat light but cleaned under clutch and hasn't happened since.

See that  makita do 40v outdoor power - hedge trimmers etc & an 40V &  80V strimmers  now so expect the40v - 80V chainsaws will come out soon.....

I reckon I might have been being a bit simple. Dug the makita out and had a closer look- it's out of oil. I think the stop-start jerking motion of the chain may have been as the overload sensor (which is very sensitive when starting up) kicked in and out. I've dressed the bar, oiled it up and cleaned the battery and trigger contacts. Fingers crossed.
