i made up a kit from some cord from a chandlers with a good enough rating and snap links from rock climbing plus a few old climbing krabs.

also made a hoop to carry them on, works really well for side limbs and a bit of timber.

not sure about steel krabs i would of thought 10 of them might be a bit on the weighty side.

If you don't screw up a screwgate biner don't you massively reduce its strength?  You're leaving yourself with an open ended oval, not a continuous ring of steel
There's still an engagement with the gate but not as secure because it could pop out as the biner flexes. In any case we're talking speedline kit here, nothing is anywhere near to the biner rating.

I think I may as well buy a set of slings and keep it all to one side-I was going to buy some Lyon 25mm slings probably 100mm long, what did you go for?

I find a variety of loop lengths is best for speedlining. It makes it just a little easier rigging several branches to set up, then cutting them off one at a time. Saves having to pull the speedline rope to reach that branch round the back or side of the trunk.

I got mine from Skyland mate.

Steel, which is important, 22Kn rated, and less than a fiver each.

Foin Oval Screwgate Connector Foin have been making connectors for over 20 years proving their quality...

why is steel important? wear and tear I guess?

I would have thought alluminium for its better heat distribution?
