Owning an imported car

I've got my eyes on an imported car, originally from Japan. Anyone got experience of living with one? Was it hard to insure etc, parts hard to find and so on?

Haha! No unfortunately not, I'm looking at "sensible" family estate cars. It's just the particular one I'm looking at has 330bhp 🤪

Had one 25 years ago, insurance cost a fortune. It was a Honda CRX though and I was only 21 so that didn't help either.

 

No idea of up to date prices.

 

ps, I say it was a fortune...it was £900 from memory. Would struggle to get that on a renault clio now for a 21 year old!!

There used to be lots ofiJap imports over here. Never heard anything negative except sometimes headlamps etc might be different.

I still see quite a few 7 seaters around.

Asians seem to like them

I would just be aware of main dealers.  I used to have an Impreza back in the day, UK spec.  A few mates had the Jap imports, main dealers wouldn’t touch them.  They had a few troubles getting parts, but this was in the early 2000’s.  eBay and the internet in general are a lot better these days for choice.

 

One of the main problem, again 21 years ago.  The Octane rating in Japan was 98 whereas the Uk was 97.  It could have been the other way round, I forget.  This caused lots of problems with injectors and engine faults, which again the main dealers wouldn’t touch.  Especially with some of the highly tuned Scoobies.

 

This may have changed now but worth looking into.  It looks a nice car.
