An unusually stout birch measuring approximately four Screwfix catalogues DBH. I have seen other big ones but never bothered to take photos or mentally record the sizes. Anyone found bigger than this one?

Yes, a selection on the common near here. They get pretty rotten though.

I forgot to put that in the opening post. Not only are these unusually big, they’re unusually healthy. Aware those things linked.

I've measured one with a 461, was about one bar length.

Tree was in a conservation area, this one was all over neighbours house so they let us fell it, it's brother in the garden ended up with TPO which I think is unusual for birch.

I’m guessing that’s about 2’ dbh?
Nice straight clean log.
Years ago that would get sent to a peeler to make plywood from.
It’s mainly chipped now.
Seen a few that size but not straight like that.

@Rough HewnCan any nice / good / useful etc planks be milled from Silver Birch?  I have a trunk down in my garden (might be rotten by now) that I keep trying to find some time to have a go at milling instead of turning into firewood logs for my consumption.

Closer to 20” but that was very crudely measured. I’d have guessed 2’.
