I was nervous about how hard I should be pushing/tapping it. Called Stihl technical who assured me I'd have to be a complete barbarian to harm anything. Suggest you ask them yourself for your own peace of mind. Or pay a dealer to do it for the ultimate liability shift.

Yo, what's the difference between tapping the pin and replacing the whole stock oiler pump with the high-output pump?

 

Does pinning a normal pump make it the same as a high output pump, or will it exceed the high output pump? Or is it still not as good as a high output pump?

 

Does the high-output have a pin too? Can you turn the high output punp into a super ultra high output?

 

Anyone know?

I’d like to know how many have put an 880 away for when they become valuable 

I think they have caught a cold cause the 881 is so good

Ha! You see them advertised from time to time for silly money, the ads often imply they’re like Thor’s hammer and will transform you into a tree climbing phenomenon.

As it’s a saw that’ll probably see you through to retirement I’d go for the newer one. 

Sooner or later they’ll stop producing spare parts for the 880, probably around the time you start to need them in 20 odd years!

The 881 is a much better saw than the 880.
As far as future value goes…
There’s a guy in n.America has a virgin 090. Been hung on his shop wall since early eighties.
Got to about $4000 at auction.
Didn’t reach reserve.

Best time to buy an 880 was the time between the 881 release date and the actual arrival in shop date.
Heard of £900 cash deals…
Then sell it in the following month to people who think the 881 will be a dud.

Well, I blew out the crud, shone a torch, used a worn round file and tappy tappy tap tap.

Turned the screw and WHOA!

Immediate flood of oil leading to a well lubed freshly sharpened 90cm bar.

I've put the 63cm back on a turned the screw back.

I'll keep an eye on the oil/fuel usage rate.
