Can I ask if your using a wood preserve on the larch? Just had something built out of it and trying to decide what to use with minimal effort and to keep some original colours and grain. It rained earlier and turned a really nice shade, wondering if I could mimic that

Been making some gates. Never made any this big before. Made from 40mm box steel salvaged from old stillages and 22mm English larch cladding. Quite happy with how they came out.

Lovely job there. The colour variation in the timber is particularly pleasing.

Not intending to treat it. Happy for it to grey off.
The gates are at my parents house and they don't want any maintenance. Hence the new garage being cedar and the gates larch.
They look great now. They will slowly weather and grey off, the only way to prevent this is either continual oiling or a few coats of some sort of toxic varnish every couple of years.
You can put clear coat preservative on but it won't stop it weathering.
With our climate it would be a continual battle to maintain the way it looks now. Id rather not bother and accept the natural look.
