Just heard that govt has announced E10 fuel to be sold from the summer.

Essentially it means that the pump fuel will have a 10% ethanol mix rather than the current 5%, which may have an impact on engine power, running and longevity.

Does anyone know if Stihl/Husqv/Echo etc have made any recommendations in regards to their 2 stroke equipment?

Maybe this is the nudge I need to go down the Aspen route,,,

Isn't it the ethanol content that degrades rubberised components such as diaphragms and pipes?

Quite possibly: it definitely seems to have a detrimental effect on humans from what I witnessed during my time in A&E,,,

Surely you could still just buy super unleaded and use it with a good quality 2-stroke oil.

Yes you will be able to do that.  I already have to for my KTM 690 Duke m/c but its something like £1.35/litre and not everywhere has it.

It would still be much cheaper than switching to Aspen.

 

Unless you were going to anyway.

 

But that's a different debate altogether.

I can't imagine it will have that much of an effect unless you store your saw for a long time between uses. The ethanol can absorb moisture and it makes the fuel go stale sooner. It can make plastic parts harden, the clear fuel tubes are the worst, they seem to go amber/brown and then crack. Haven't seen it have much effect on rubber but I'm sure it does over time. At the end of the day new fuel lines are about £6 and a carb kit is about £15 so unless you're an occasional user who's storing fuel for long periods then it shouldn't have much of an effect. 

 

Otherwise switch to aspen!

I think that the premium pump fuel is changing to 95 so basically you’ll be paying the premium price for what is currently standard petrol.

When the unleaded 95 changes to 10% ethanol in September, some of the manufactures, namely Texaco, Esso are changing their Premium or Super Unleaded to 0% ethanol,  but not in all areas, in the areas which does not it will still be 5% ethanol as it currently is, ( even then, just to confuse the public, the fuel will be 0% ethanol, but will still show 5% ethanol on the pump to satisfy the greens! If you are in a 5% ethanol area  just use fuel stabilizer, this stops the degrading and the water absorption, its cheap and available from all good garden machinery places or the net of course.

Does anyone know what effect ethanol content has on petrol’s susceptibility to detonation? Will high ish compression engines run on regular start knocking soon?
