My guess is the railings were a later addition as the height of the garden it retained suggest it was a haha, the aim of which was to extend the view of the lawn into the grass beyond yet keep cattle out.

That makes a lot of sense Andrew, hadn't thought of it. If you look over the wall from the house there's a gentle downhill grass slope to a river, the opposite bank of the river rises steeply to be higher than the house with a woodland on top, maybe a kilometre away. A lovely vista. If the wall was higher it'd block the river view from the ground floor.

The plaque is intriguing too, I wonder where it was placed originally, before the house was built.

New arrival in the truck today.

A few test cuts on small stuff but not had chance to try it in anger yet, be interesting to see how it does.

‘ere Doug,  have you used this in anger yet?

Hopefully it’s rubbish, as I went down the Husqvarna battery ‘rabbit hole’ and this looked like first Stihl offering to make me potentially regret that decision*

*eye watering initial investment - no way I’m also investing in Stihl battery paraphernalia!
