Most common trees in the UK

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

Just bought Collins Complete Guide To British Trees and already have pretty sound knowledge in identifying

Cherry trees

Ash

Conifers Firs Spruce Pine

Alder

Oak

Holly

Birch

Apart from listed above what trees do you most commonly come across as an arborist?

Just thought I would try focus studying first in the more common ones then move onto to the less common ones

Thanks

I would say that one that would be up there and classed as common has to be Sycamore grows any where and on some sites we work on they crop up every where, we did thin on a re-gen site that had been birch and 1 row of sycamore on the western side of the woodland but there was far more re-gen sycamore than birch we cut 1000s of 3-4ft syc off,

If you're looking to do tree work in gardens learn Lawson's Cypress, Leyland Cypress and Western Red Cedar.  They look different and smell different but you should know one from the other.

Pyracantha... almost every job has at least a token stem or two, often 10ft up the middle of a conifer tree.

The same goes for Clematis armandii!
