Even if I don't need the blower at the end of a job I try to remember to take it for just this reason.  It is bloody annoying to start the next day's job with a starter cord that won't budge.

Try RS supplies for a range of microswitches for around a fiver. Probably the same place GreenMech buy them from...

Hard to see exactly but most likely yellow one with a spade on the end mate. Pull it off, stick the earth lead of the multimeter onto an earth point on the machine and the probe into that spade. Hold the igintion in the crank position and check that you get 12v at the spade.

 

But if it's clicking, then it's clearly getting a signal here.


What's the system voltage?

 

Have you checked ALL terminals? Obviously the the battery terminals, but also the two terminals on the starter motor and where the batter earth strap bolts to the machine chassis.

A picture might help identify it.

 

The palm switches were often broken on our Greenmechs and I think the dealer charged £75 but they were available online for £24

I'll check the starter motor terminals next.

The energiser is getting 12V - I pulled the yellow terminal off and put the meter between it and the spade connector.

Undo them and use a flat file across the surface of the ring terminals to freshen them up. Same with the battery earth- often overlooked but critical.

Whizz the starter motor off, it sounds like that's your trouble if you're getting 12v down the exciter on crank.

 

Bench test it, quite simple to do. You'll need a set of jump leads, a short length of single core cable and a loose battery.

 

If you aren't sure how to do it, lightly clamp the starter motor in a vice. Stick the positive jump lead onto the positive of the starter motor, earth the starter using the negative jump lead by the starter body, connect the positive and negative leads onto the slave battery as usual, then add 12v using your small single core cable from the battery positive to where the exciter wire fits. If nothing, then new starter motor time. Looking at the photos I can see its a 2010 machine so could well be 10 years old...

Yeh... I had to bypass the belt cover safety cut-out.

Trouble is with these mods is that you do them and then forget how it should have been originally!!!
