Well time has come to replace my trusty 2008 old Wildtrak  Tipper which has just passed its MOT with just a number plate bulb needed but it’s done 0ver 200,000k so has a few advisories to deal with.

Will be sticking With a  Ranger Wildtrak 3.2 and looking at getting ether a 2013 to 15 model but thinking of going for an automatic which I have never had before so I need a little help for the advantages and disadvantages of a automatic over a manual in general and for towing so any help who be great..thank you.👍

I am on my second Disco 2, both auto, which I use for towing 3.5 ton regularly. I just find auto easier for slow speed shunting of trailers, especially on slopes, so avoiding clutch wear. Also nice n lazy if tired and sitting in tedious traffic queues. I think it boils down to personal preference more than any specific pros and cons.

Our Iveco Daily 3.5 ton tipper would be better as auto as the clutch is not beefy enough for hillstarts/reverses when laden. I gather Transits are much the same, whereas a mate's Izuzu is great  with respect to clutch/hillstarts.

I have driven a 57 reg ranger 2.5 and the clutch/low down torque was great on that, so I guess it is just a matter of preference for you if you are sticking with Rangers.

General rule I have found is that ask anyone who has an auto and they will say they love it.

Thanks for the replies so far and of course I have started to do some ground work as far as how advantageous a automatic over a manual is and it seems once you have tryd and had an automatic especially a modern one it knicks spot off a manual especially if towing caravans, trailers etc so a 750kg wood chipper would be easy.

So main reason is for towing a Chipper and the newer modal ford rangers have a 6 speed box and if i’am being honest it’s not the best ford have made and I think it will be such a pain changeing up and down I rather fancied a automatic...think I have made my mind up and moving more to a automatic.
