Recycled wood, what to do...

Good afternoon all,

This may not be the place to ask or even the correct forum! But I have to start somewhere.

I'm starting a waste transfer station from a skip hire company and I get a lot of wood in through the gates.

In the form that it comes, rough cut and odd ends, it's of little value. I have the option of making some into shelves etc in a building shed and then selling on FB etc

I was looking for some advice on if should chip this wood?

What would it sell for by the tonne, would I sell that directly or off to another company and what I should expect for the tonne?

I want 100% recycled process at the sorting yard, so any of your expert advice (or micky taking! we all like a good laugh) would be most welcome.

Kindest regards

James

I think it would depend on whether is is treated or not to start with .

Your best option is to ask some local biomass companies if they take clean wood chip. Someone on here may know of the company but I know some of them will actually send a lorry down, you will have to have enough to fill an artic or it's not worth their time though.

You also need to factor in the cost of a hammer type chipper as the normal rotary blade chipper won't handle any nails etc that may be in the mix. Something like the Timberwolf TW S426TDHB

You need to stockpile it and then get something like this in for the day

KINGWELLHIRE.CO.UK

Biomass shredder hire machines, available on daily and week hire. Capable of shredding up to 2m...

as we as mentioned above though, if it’s treated that may change things. I suspect a lot of it would be. The company in the link would be able to advise you on that I’m sure

Presumably you are charging for the dumping facilities if a lot of the wood is of a low grade with very little or no value so that is where the money can be made .so to clarify value in charging to dump but maybe not in mixed low grade wood .I would also be thinking about just doing pallets as they can easily be repaired and resold or broken down and planks sanded and stored.

There is Easier money to be made in screening soil or recycling concrete /stone fo mot .id just stick to staying in bed though
