We had this built this year. Two blokes built it from scratch in 12 weeks. Cost just over £100k, but that full finished with central heating, two bathrooms, kitchen etc.... ready to move into.

Here’s their card. If you email Mark he will be able to send you some pictures of work they’ve done and answer any questions you have. They’re based in Northamptonshire but stay on site while the work is being done.

Consider building a "Stackwall" Cabin.

More efficient use of logs because they can be all different diameters, the Cabins are warmer too.

You really just need a concrete mixer a shovel and a chainsaw to put the walls up.I lived in one in Canada for three months and they hold the heat well.

Euagh!
Re stackwood/cordwood construction that is.
Codwood construction ud be worse though.
Do the log sections shrink away from the concrete/ mortar fill, and are the exposed end grains more susceptible to damp tracking along them, and decay/rodent /insect attack ?

Yes yes and yes, plus according to the wiki article I scanned, timber is less/significently  insulating along the grain.

I imagine it started as an adhoc construction using soil/clay and short, otherwise  scrap cuttings of logs?

cheers

Totally agree with that Irish word that needs no translation!

( not saying "Euagh" about the blond though!)
