I was trying to be positive mate.  Now I will say it how it is, a 4 week course doesn't make you a good tree surgeon.

It will take a good few years to be a competent freelancer, maybe more.  I have worked with climbers who have been on the tools nearly 10 years.  Sometimes I can't believe they are still alive.

Does passing your driving test make you as good a driver as Lewis Hamilton, Colin McRae RIP, Senna or Prost?

No it certainly doesn't, even though they have the same initial license as you.

I still say good luck and charge accordingly.

What you charge is your business and nothing to do with anyone else.Nothing wrong with £180 for 4 hrs work and your doing the correct thing by buying new equipment but only buy what your going to use not what you think you may use.

i’d be bust if i charged £180 for 4 hrs work

6 hours if you include the “few hours getting the van ready”

plus time to look at the job?
plus admin time?
plus email dialogue time?

don’t forget the unpaid hours. Include those in the 180quid and suddenly the hourly rate isn’t that great.

listen to the pros giving you advice in this derailed thread, i.e Mick, John and Rich

anyway, what did the OP think about the 165?
