Would it be a complete no no to go for a single rear axle van for a 3.5tn arb tipper? Cheers!

It’s a common sense vs law mate.
Single axle, less weight more payload, but less traction and stability.
Double axle, more weight less payload, but more traction and stability.
Also “IF” you were to overload a double axle I presume it would be safer.

I see a lot of single axle tippers around my way and that's with the well established tree surgeons. If you bump into them then ask them what's their take on it.

Make sure you check yr weight stamp on tyres or you would be done that way too. Never had bother with single tyre axles over twin tyre axle fr getting stuck - but then i have a tirfor in cab if in doubt. K

What is the most common 3.5t tipper that tree surgeons use? I noticed they all seem to use fords.

Can’t fault my transit. Super reliable , very good torque. Parts are cheap and on the shelf. Mechanics find them easy to work on.
Got to go a long way to beat it. Less sure about the most recent incarnation.

Iveco is also very good

Up rated rear springs are a must. And a set of barn doors to hide the naughty loads ...
