Is windsurfing still a thing? My late father was a real fanatic for many years, 20 or 25 years ago. His local beach for it was always crammed with windsurfers. If I ever go there these days it's all kite surfers, I'm lucky to see one windsurfer. Always makes me a bit sad, and surprised.

Yes its still popular in the SW. The big wave sailers have never switched to kites. Now we have windsurfers, kitsurfers and windfoilers (windsurfer with a hydrofoil) which is getting quite popular.

Ah, that's reassuring to hear. The beach I'm thinking about is Exmouth. Used to be all windsurfers, now it's all kite surfers. Not exactly big wave surfing there so maybe that explains it.
I've never heard of windfoiling, interesting.

I spend a lot of time on the water and very rarely see a windsurfer  ...mostly SUP,s and kayaks ...
SUP - Is that Stand Up Paddle Boarding? I've never really seen the point of that. Non of the excitement of surfing or windsurfing.
