Yeh, small world indeed. I know the feeling. sipping away being right as rain and then BANG, sparked out of the floor. :D

My Norgie mate makes the 95% stuff from a sugar wash. Makes a batch in an IBC. Its cracking stuff. Smells like vanilla and a drop on your tongue evaporates almost instantly. He's a clever lad, only young but loves his toys. He's reactivated a M16, a AK and his AR-15. Nutter.

I can see this going well. Makes his own rocket fuel booze AND reactivates military weapons! You have some very interesting friends Andy.

A pal in Norway cracks out 95% stuff. Its something else. I could theoretically produce at around 75%. [emoji3] He has a much better Still than me, but my Reflux Still is coming along nicely and that will get me into the high 80%, maybe even 90% depending on what material I use in the column. Strictly for distilling pure water for my batteries of course. [emoji6]

If I had some high octane Vodka there is no way I’d be using that for sensible things like sanitising or purifying.
That stuff would be going straight down the hatch!

To be fair to them, just received another email from the same vendor apologising and explaining that they couldn't get hold of gel through normal routes so had to go out and buy it from an obscure retailer at elevated price, hence as cost price was high it got sold on at high price.

I think they're decent people, trying to get hold of sanitizer because people kept asking for it.

Some years ago I was a wholesaler in a different industry,  over 40 years in that industry.     I would suspect that prices from the product manufacturers or importers who are suppling the company you speak of will have gone through the roof due to world wide demand and profiteering by the manufacturers.

The retailer has fixed overheads and usually adds a fixed percentage to his cost price to cover these and make a reasonable profit.  So if the costs rise so does the sell out price.

So if the retailer had the product in stock in December then you have a fair point,  if not you may not.   Certainly I would be asking the reason behind the price rise.

Shop by me i know say's the wholesaler has jacked prices right up when went in to get stuff it had more than doubled!
