The one I had I had given to me by a lad I know, it's was tidy for its age R reg, it pulled a trailer well, and I can't remember ever getting it bogged down.

I put some pictures of it on here when my ex missus got hit head on in it by some dick head speeding down a narrow lane.

Oh damn. ? We got hit by a Car Dick doing 60 on a sharp bend in the ice. Came over to our side and spun us off the road. Actually snapped the rear axle.

He did a proper job on that one, I'll have a hunt for a picture of mine.

It’s funny that if that was a defender in the same condition with same engine/gearbox etc it would probably be £6k or so. I think the older discos are fantastic value for money. Don’t know about the Disco 2 but certainly the 1 still has an alluminium skin bodywork just like the defender which seems to keep them tidy looking. The arches and the boot floor are the bits to watch for in terms of rust.

Its utterly mad! Same engines, same gear boxes, same towing capacity,  much better body/interior,  1/4 of the price! I've been recommending discos to people for years, while driving a defender.  2 years ago I bought a 200k td5 disco as a back up van/car, did 15k in it in 14 months, not trouble free but I absolutely loved it. 'Upgraded' it for a D3, which I've done a lot of miles in, but quite frankly I'm scared of it??

And to answer the original question,  I'd go for a swb 3.0 Trooper, had 2, cheap power, although most people recommend the older, less powerful,  more reliable 3.1 model?

Yes I agree, and the disco usually have an easier life- generally if you have a defender it’s for work, towing, off roading etc. So even though my disco has done 156k miles it’s very tight altogether whereas defender at 189k miles has far more slop and wear and tear- it’s been like that for years though!

I do like my Grand Cherokees. The WK is a lot of car for the Money and I find far more reliable than Landrover plus a good bit cheaper. Merc Engine and Box and Merc tuned suspension as the company was DaimerChrysler at the time. The newer WK2 is based on the Merc M Class although I died a little inside when they dropped the Merc 3.0d for a Fiat owned Diesel. :D

Sniff!

Fix It Again Tomorrow, do however make some cracking good engines ESPECIALLY the diesels, right up there with MB inmho.

So I hear. Its an engine manufacturer Fiat owns, VM Motori that makes their diesels, or at least some of them anyway. So far I cant fault it. Punchy as hell.

They've been used in the GC and Rams etc since 2014 with no major issues. 240 ponies and over 400f/lbs its plenty power for me.
