Chain Grinder Advice

i've got the one from lidl does what it says on the tin ! only use it if i hit a stone or metal and need the edge taking back a bit ! Then i usually finish by hand filing !

My HT101 is a 2013 model.

 

I would have to wait for the Lidl/Aldi ones to turn up again and i really neef something now.

 

I am going to look at the Clarke one.

There's a Portek on Amazon for about the same price as the Machine mart version .

I don't know how anybody buys tools like this nowadays. I have no idea which brand to go for,  the Clarke, Faithful, Oregon mini, they all look the same. They are different prices though and some have a slight different design.

If you are going to use an electric chain grinder then get a good quality solid metal one. If you don't then you chain sharpening will be rubbish and will leave you uneven teeth, this will give you a rubbish cut...
I would suggest that you get an Oregon 620 or a 520 grinder...

Lidl one for me and just the narrower disk for all my chains. The mechanism for the grinder head is very good with no discernible play and a good stop for hight. The chain guide part is a bit plasticy but if you hold the chain back against the stop in a constant way it gives excellent results. For the money I cant fault it

IIRC ozito batteries are the same as Einhell for anyone who's already got some Einhell 18v kit. Toolstation and Wickes do Einhell.
Tempted as cheap and portable.

I use this Oregon one for my milling chains , have never used it for anything else but I would go with caution with a bench grinder, very easy to overheat the cutters and blue a chain, I take my time and have a pot of oil brush it on every tooth each grind once or twice ... but then I’m pretty ocd about Milling chains being absolutely spot on to avoid lots of unnecessary sanding later and no dives in cuts.
