Are Protos Helmets worth the money?

No, they are not worth it.  Gives me chronic headache and the ear protection is terrible.

Helmet fits are a bit like boots though and are very personal. What works for one will be dreadful for others. Petzl helmets for instance feel dreadful to me, but obviously work for many others.

The protos is heavier than other helmets, and the venting isn’t brilliant. On the flip side it’s protection is better than most of not all other helmets on the market and it’s a much sleeker unit.

Had mine for a year. Can’t see me buying anything else tbh but like everything it’s not 100% perfect. I got a second one from a lad on gumtree who was getting out the game. Bought a plastic visor for that one instead of the metal mesh one that comes standard which was a game changer. When not in use it keeps the rain off your face and when in use sawdust in the eyes because a distant memory.

Use the mesh one when climbing and the plastic when on the deck and there’s a lot of sawdust about.

Never had an issue with the ear muffs falling out or snapping open so not sure about that. Maybe not fitted properly.

only negatives are the price, they are slightly heavy and they get smelly pretty quick even when you wash the pads.

I liked the Protos at first, once I got it fitted correctly, the way the ear muffs tuck out of the way when not in use and the visor staying close to the helmet when you push it up are great features; it also feels much more "fitted" when you're wearing it in some way, than other helmets.

However I did find the ear muffs popped-off quite regularly once I'd had it for a month or so which rapidly got very old. The worst thing though was the way in which when it rained, the mesh visor became full of water droplets that made it virtually impossible to see through and because the mesh is so fine you couldn't just tap the visor or shake your head to lose them.

I've found a quick flick of the visor open/closed knocks the water off ok
