I'm afraid they're not lovely. They're parasites.

From a NI perspective, where most farms are family owned, they either bought the farm with earned income, but most probably inherited it, so, why does this make them parasites, assuming, not unreasonably, that they are merely lawfully claiming what somebody else in Government decided they were entitled to claim.

I didn't say, and don't think, everyone will move out of the cities. (Actually will there be an outside of cities if there's not planning restrictions, will one city just merge into the next?).

But, there's plenty of people who are willing to move out. Those people buying up all the rural property and pricing Big J out of the market for one. Many would have loved the chance to buy a large chunk of land and build a new property rather than buy and expensive, run down farm, and renovate.

As for a land tax, very John McDonnell.

I'll be honest. You're losing me. Suffice to say that if you seriously believe flooding the UK developable land market with fifty-four million acres (compared to the six million acres currently built on)* is going to increase land prices, I'm probably incapable of reasoning with you.
*figures from the top of google

P.S. I said 'exclusive land value tax' and not 'land tax.' There are big differences.

Funny old world, if you're poor and claim benefits you're a good for nothing fucking scrounger, if you've got 200 acres and claim benefits you're lovely.

But the lovely landowning scroungers will bolster the economy by trickling the money down to contractors etc, who will then pay tax which will pay their own wages. That could work indefinitely.

I also have a design for a personal mobile elevated work platform. You stand in a bucket and lift yourself up by the handle.

If a tick is born on a bullock's bollock, it's still a parasite. I wouldn't try to appeal to it on a moral level though. Humans I will. Lots of people are born into circumstances where they can claim for stuff. Many don't because they don't think they should have something that was stolen from someone else and/or they don't want to support systems that would steal from them to give to other people again.

With my non Presbyterian upbringing I've seen these landowners driving around in brand new trucks while claiming benefits.

So you assume any new builds will be nicely spread out around the country? Most will be around cities, towns, villages where there's work, transport and other facilities - as illustrated by Big J.

I can't see this not resulting in very large price rises in the areas where most people would want to build.

As for your tax, it's still a tax.

It's legal though, like lobotomising gays was.

Gents, I can only reiteriate my family owned farm upbringing of 60-50 year ago. It was very plain, any money was re-invested in the farm business. My father and his brother worked brutally hard. There was no mains electric. There was no mains water. There were no holidays. There were few luxuries, compared to my townie classmates.

These things may have changed, BUT that is how family owned farms were inherited or accrued. You can be as envious and jealous of the current farmers/landowners as you like but you sound like Uncle Joe Stalin and his reaction to, and treatment of the Kulaks. Link attatched.
