I think it dates back many years.

 

My dad for instance was a working man but always shaved every morning, it showed care for appearance and personal hygiene, respectability if you like.

 

In the 50s only tramps, sailors and ne’er do wells had designer stubble.

Anyway, apparently Gillette’s loss of revenue is at least in part due to online shaving products, Harry’s is one (never heard of it though) that provide much better value.

 

Plus shaving, at least amongst white males in the western world is diminishing.

Wish mine was like that. Defiant to the end. Command meant nothing until eye contact was made and held for a second or 2. Even then the command was only as permanent as your presence. I didn't bother trying to train it out. Had a grudging respect.

It's the discipline of putting a razor sharp blade to your throat at the right angle and dragging it across your skin. The meticulous nature of it. 

 

But you're reading too much into it. I don't think it made me feel manly really. Was being tongue in cheek. More, a preparation process I guess. I do it for funerals also sometimes. Just a focus.

I'll agree with this.

It's when I'm I lazy fecker and take no pride in my appearance that I look like a scruffy git with a part beard. 

 

The younger generation all have beards, we all know how utterly useless and lazy they all are..

 

Besides if you sport a beard you can add 20 years to your appearance, just a moustache adds an entire century.

Same, I look hideous with facial hair but just can't be arsed some days.
