Work suddenly went quiet

I’ve seldom known it so quiet, the halcyon days of answering 5 messages off the landline every night and calls for quotes on the mobile all day seem a long way off at the moment.
And I’m not the only one neither, judging by the number of late night calls I’ve received from other tree firm owners who don’t know exactly what to do for the best.
The general consensus is, to use a modern term, hang in there.

I'm just going to sub into a company that use the CIS thingy, the money is decidedly average, but it should be a good run of work. It seems those in the building trade are flying, those of us on the fringes are muddling by.

well i did only 2 days work in May!  June so far is a mere trickle with bits and bobs and the odd enquiry / quote.  I have even done some general handyman type of jobs like replacing fence posts/panels etc. Hope it picks up soon as i'm getting ready to spend a few k on having me driveway concreted 6 inches deep and a new 22'x13' concrete shed base poured in readiness for more storage space for motorbikes, chipper, cakes etc.  Ya can't have enough shed space!  Once Alexei Sayle gets in as PM and we start building gulags and opening some salt mines we'll all get busier...

I am not sure whats going on but we are flat out and have been for a long time now, inquiries dropped off a bit in the new year but we had work so far ahead it made no difference. Tricky Dickie is flat out all week pricing and we dont advertise  :dontknow:

well you and Al Cormack are not a million miles away from each udder and he appears busy too and was looking for another climber.  If i had a camper van i'd be up that way to sub to You or Him for a few weeks to tide me over. My wife is making me do tings in the garden and tidy the garage ffs.

Al has never been as busy since he painted his truck blue :)

Right now we could do with a decent forestry tractor driver. a climber, two groundies , two 360 drivers, a fitter, a groundworker and an extra office bod. Interviewing some this week but competent staff around here are very thin on the ground.
