We lived in S Wales and my stepdad was a miner. Her policies wreaked absolute havoc on the Valleys.
I remember at the very same time methadone was being very deliberately pushed onto young unemployed people in large quantities, long before there was a significant presence of heroin in those parts. (Conspiracy theories abound)

I don’t think the energy companies should have been privatised. There is a lot more to powering the nation than just providing value for shareholders.

Perhaps she would have done a better job of tackling Brussels for a deal. Maybe.

Very divisive figure.

Good things: response to Falklands crisis, strengthened UK's position in Europe, curtailed worst abuses by trade unions, supported perestroika.

Bad things: introduced poll tax (most regressive form of tax imaginable), removed workers' rights, massively increased income disparity, massively reduced industrial capacity, slashed investment in schools, health care and infrastructure,  put millions out of work (ok, maybe not all her fault), allowed countless communities to go to the wall because they weren't "one-of-us" and therefore, to her mind, worthless.

Oh, yeah, the milk thing too.

A bit of both really. Standing up for the Falkland islanders was a plus point, which did her chances of re-election the world of good.

Standing up to The EU was another plus point.

I thought  the selling of council houses was a great mistake. Great if you were in a position to buy one cheap, but short term gain, long term pain.

She's a poor mans Churchill for me.. pound shop version.

Did well to bring unions to heel, lost all credibility following Kieth Josephs Monetarism economic theory..  mind you she was in good company at the time.. Ronald Reagan was dumber than her..

I cut taxes in California and tax receipts rose, oh nothing to do with lowering them in a growing economy then..  thick as two short planks..

lets remember it took twenty yrs to recover from her bull in a china shop economic experiment...

my fav moment of her premiership, the stock exchange jumping when she announced she was on her way out...  Capitalism clapping her into retirement...

I am a fan, although mistakes were made, arrogance, hubris and pigheadedness abounded.

Those of a certain age will remember continual governments being held to ransom by the unions, in particular the miners, she had the balls to sort it out.

A divisive figure for sure, but it’s a big thumbs up from me.

Nope. Absolute egotistical cow- loved sound of her own voice. Three brand new pits opened our area, modern drift mines, shut down. One shipyard ( privately owned) one army  tank works. Shut. Don't tell me she were worth a tinkers. K

Eh up, Johnson will be along later to tell us all how wonderful the Lady was.

Now listen 'ere oatcake boy, I've only just happened along and found this little teaser.

Got my vote in and pulled it back to 50 / 50 on the poll which is good.

Maybe as the evening draws out and the productive, creative, contributors to society get home and catch up that lead will pull even further away from the work-shy, stay at home dossers that spend all day online rather than doing something more constructive with their lives....

Hold that thought whilst I compile a more comprehensive set of reasons for celebrating the premiership of the great lady after I get back from the gym....
