Today's milling

Question time ?

 

I have these logs that I'll be milling over the wknd 

The one at the back on the right is cherry

4 other big logs are beech and little one at the front is obviously oak

 

Question is what's the best thickness to do them to keep the wood as stable as possible during drying, I'm thinking 40/50mm? They'll most likely be used for a bbq area or that sort of idea, so most likely external application

 

Also, does anyone ever spray their slabs with woodworm preservative just to do all they can to get the little shits out?

only the oak is durable so i would not use the rest for an outdoor BBQ area myself.
 
40-50mm is fine for milling to but keep a heavy weight on top of the stack to keep them flat whilst they dry.

Cherry durable but be a waste outside if not burnished to show off grain

Ah, I thought you where showing how much you had left in the tank. :D Kidding. 

 

 

My 088 loves a drink when Milling too. I'm waiting on an excuse to get it down to him one day. :D 

 

When I Milled some Cherry it warped and split like crazy. Even weighed down with a whole bunch of Tractor weights.
