Total failure today.
Client wanted a couple of reclaimed beams(10"x16") cutting in to planks.
I texted him the price of hitting metal.
He was fine with that.
IMG_9186.jpgIMG_9193.jpg
Got 4" in to the first cut, sparking and smoking.
Filed the buggered teeth back.
Got another 6".
Another filing.
Another 6" cut, I gave up.
Had a look carefully and saw several more nails, screws etc.
Wasted an afternoon and a 25" chain.
Lesson learned, no resawing ever.
Client was gutted,
I felt bad, so I'm giving him a large slab, as I still had to charge him £150 for a 16" cut.

hi if you know of any one else who wants some proper pitch pine which are nail free, i have several lengths of 6x6 pitch pine which where reclaimed several years ago from the old wooden structure of the big dipper on blackpool plesure beach, and a hand held metal detector for about 20 quid of flea bay would not be a bad investment,

Never, ever resaw someone elses timber. It's just not worth it. It's a lesson every sawmiller learns, sooner or later! ?

Tidying up the yard today, I free hand cut a few little cutting boards.
Never seen pippy beech before. The olive ash and elm were beautiful too.
Randomly two chippies turned up with a planer thicknesses.

I think thats just a thicknesser? I really want one of them, just now I only have a little 8" SIP Planer/Thicknesser. Its done some nice work on a few boards I milled and dried a year ago. Will make a few nice inside projects. :)

That's a tidy set up mate,
How's the logosol working?
Those oak boards look the business emoji106.pngemoji106.pngemoji106.png

Still getting a wavey cut with the Logosol. Ive done everything I can on the Sleepers. Everytjhing seems to be 100% true. Ive spent days setting it up to within 1mm tolerances. Lots us suggestions for the waveness from the blades, to how hard I push to log tension. When Im home next I'll get the Mill mounted on the Trailer and take it from there. Im working a lot just now and the Over Times just to goo to pass up. Then we're off on Holiday when I get off of here, then back to work for a Month. :D Will be mid November before I get a proper change to do anything at home now. :(

Yeh the Oak is 14% from being in the Polly Tunnel for a year. We live in a cold drafty Farmhouse so hopefully it will be ok. Its all planed up for a small project for my 19 month old. a Teddy Zoo. :D:D:D Been stabalising for a month or so now and looks as good as when it came off the Planer. I bought a new Morticer when I was home last so I'll get the Zoo, and my daughters bed built with that when I get the time.

Plus Ive a load of Oak to Mill, plus a few jobs lined up for the Mill too. Just no bloody time right now. :(
