Today's milling

[Rough Hewn]

Im making some chopping boards and table tops. Not really glamorous stuff at the moment but whatever it takes to pay the Bill's. 

Get in with your local tree surgeons and find some local foresters.
Give em a call, often you can get cherry,oaks etc for cheap/beer money.
You should be able to get some more interesting stuff to mill from them.

Thank you for the advice. Still a little new to milling. I used to either hewing my own or getting it already milled.

Looks like beech to me.  No leaves to verify?

Very stable and beautiful timber Sycamore.  Can spalt and marble, but often most sought after when kept clean which means drying in a good summer, or kilning.  

 

Not good outside of course, but perfect for endless indoor projects, kitchen worksurfaces, doors, all manner of furniture, mirror frames, indeed any indoor furniture you care to mention.

 

Sycamore is of course a Maple which is used loads in USA/Canada, so very useful timber indeed.  Certainly more suitable for furniture than Oak!

its one of those log arches or counter lever things isn't it? not sure if either of them is the correct name though!

Yeh sorry. Its probably been posted on here before to be fair. Was just interested to understand the system.  Could be helpful @Stihl123?‍♂️?
