Hello Arbtalk, I have a bit of a strange question! I have recently had a bad tree surgery experience ? I hired a tree surgeon to remove 3 trees (cherry tree 35ft high, damson tree 20ft & pear tree 20ft) I was charged £1000 but I requested they left the logs for firewood to balance the cost. But to my shock the job didn't even take a day and they only left a tiny pile of logs and about 8 ton bags of chippings and lots of brushwood for me to clean up! I just wanted to ask your expert advice on how many logs you think roughly these 3 trees should have produced!

Any advice or feedback would be good, I have attached a photo of the trees.

Many thanks in advance

Well they obviously chipped up to the maximum capacity that the chipper would take otherwise you would have had more logs.  This really should have been agreed at the quoting stage.  Not much that can be done now unfortunately.

I'd say unrealistic to expect alot more logs from 3 small trees.  £1000 sounds alot of £ for three small trees that look like they could be felled from ground without any climbing in less than 30 minutes (Though maybe picture is deceptive)

Are you saying they stole some of the logs?

Also logs don't look freshly cut they look abit old?

& why the left over brushwood if they also chipped alot of the logs?

Hi Stere, thank you for your comments.. In regards to "Are you saying they stole some of the logs?" I'm not too sure! as you said, it was expensive and I feel I have been ripped off in regards to cost, I just thought there would be more logs to balance things out!  The photos aren't the best and they have weathered a bit but the back tree was pretty large...

You havnt been ripped off, you agreed the price they quoted you and they have done the work you asked for, as for the logs I would think that they have only ringed up the size of wood worth keeping , the rest went through the chipper.

As stated usually when asked to keep firewood, people only keep >4-5inch stuff and chip the rest, although fairly tall, there isn't a huge amount of wood on those trees.

Always worth shopping around on quotes, £1000 seems a little expensive to me but I have no idea on what part of the country you are in or what you have parked on your drive!

Better luck next time!
