My 462 pulls a 25" bar with no issues at all.

A

When it was demo ing. It was run with a 20" bar. Info at the time was 462 max 20". 500i max 25".(sept.18).
After the release it changed to 462 25". And 500i 30".
Which is what a 461 will pull happily.

woodwizzard   I tried the 50cc Makita/Dolmar and was amazed at well the AV worked,  very smooth saw.
Ive been offered a DCS520 for £175, should I go for it?

Anyone got any experience of running a 550xp Mk2 with an 18 inch bar?

I'm currently using a pair of 555's, with 15 inch bars, and they ain't doing my shoulder much good. I've had a Mk1 550 and it is noticeably lighter in the hand I reckon.

Was thinking of treating myself soon, just wondered what knowledge was out there.

Id go for the 562 if your looking to pull an 18" bar

550's more of a 15" saw.

Depends what your using it for though, may be ok in soft woods

Thing is he wants " lighter " ...

Yes, I am after something a bit lighter. 562 weighs more than 555 so not a good idea!

550 is 600g lighter than 555, which doesn’t sound much but might make it more tolerable for my kinda work. I am predominantly doing first thinnings and brushing out, so light and good bar length are important.

Maybe try and find a clean husky 350, and if not quick enough get Spud to port it, my ported one is ok on an 18 but obviously better on 15, and certainly lighter than my 550, with same nice handling/balance and flickability with better hot starting.

Mike,

There is a 353 on gumtree in ayrshire at the moment for £150. Bit less revy than a 346 but torqueier. Might be worth a look.

I got chance to have a play with a Mk2 550 on Friday......

Wowsers. What a saw. It has truly surprised me, it is so quick to rev and was absolutely flying through timber at full bar length. I'll be buying myself one in the very near future, very very impressed.
