Strap a cable to one of these and shove it down any drains or pipes that need locating.

 

I'm glad he asked you that question, I don't think I would have done it quite so well.

 

In one of my Cameras I've got a Sonde built into the camera head, easy to detect location and depth.

A digger, of any size, is the proven to be infallible cable detector.

Or so it was explained to us on a CAT course many years ago.

Yes they are bloody hard to use without training and practise, practise, practise.

Buy a scanner and genny then do the Street works course or manufacturers they will show you how to use one but there is no replacement for practise there are a lot of cables and pipes that they won’t show. My insurance insists that I use one, the new scanners have gps and time they show where and when they are used ............... or not

only any good for electric really, i have one myself. Water doesnt matter as can fix yourself assuming not a 12" main!

They do find gas pipes, if you can live them up , old pipes should all have been replaced now. They DON'T find Pot ends, those are the real buggers. There you need the drawings K

I bought mine from zenith survey think they do ex hire ones if your on a budget still checked and calibrated. I usually get the divining rods out for the water and gas and don't laugh they do work

UK power networks guy used a fork to find the medium pressure gas main when connecting our yard, got sand blasted when he found it.
