I wonder how they derived the figure of 20%, it may have come from stoves manufacturers testing their offerings with wood at that mc.

 

It's almost certainly come from stove retailers. I'm sure they are fed up with being called back out to jobs because " my stove won't light" problems. It must be very annoying, and as a stove retailer on here once said, wet wood accounts for a huge amount of after installation problems. However, I'm still in favour of 25% being the benchmark and to be honest half the problem is the incompetence of the end user not being able to light a simple fire.

I am an importer, wholesaler and retailer of KDF and I also am reluctant to join this scheme.

I know for a fact that a high percentage of those who have already joined are selling firewood that is higher than an average of 20% mc.

I do not want to see local producers/retailers forced out of business because Woodsure believes everything should be below 20% mc, this is not realistic to the guys who season their firewood.

The next time you see a bag of firewood for sale with the "Ready To Burn" logo, buy it and test it, then report the retailer to Woodsure.

I suspect not a thing would be done about it because these guys are paying their wages !

That's pretty depressing. Over on the other thread someone linked to a firm with the ready to burn logo on the page and claiming " All our logs are GUARANTEED DRY and have an average moisture content of 25% or less."
