No-one's saying it was better, rather that we had to use the tools and equipment available at the time. I doubt there's any 50+ year old climbers who don't appreciate todays climbing aids, but if they weren't available could still get on and do.

im only messin..... iam sure in twenty years time the young uns will be laughing and rolling their eyes at " zig zags" and srt " rope wrenchs"  whilst flying up and down the tree on a motorized assecnder/dessecender  that fits in their hand and is powered by a remote battery pack in their pocket.. :)

So...

 Climbers over 50, the word pump and a need for aids to 'get it up'...?

That sort of small ad that would make interesting reading although I do get these as pop ups after visiting the wrongs web sites...

Anyway,

All of the students 19-23 mostly, who passed through our firm on work placements used a prussik and almost all complained of much the same pumped arm issue plus tendonitus.

I find manual wood splitting a good exercise for the forearm.

Sounds like you need to build some upper arm strength but forget a prussik and move on to more modern methods ASAP.

 

Arm pump is caused by a constant grip, grabbing too hard for too long. Something experience by motocross riders.  (Insert a never ending line of sexual innuendos here.)
