Its not the poor players fault, its always the manager

Well when both players and manager are up to the job you have to look elsewhere..  after doin some ruminating it dawned on me the players were more scarred of winning than losing..   thats been Englands problem for fifty odd years...

let em play a crap side and they can run rings round em, put em up in a world cup semi and they crap themselves lest they might win the thing.. I became pretty good at the games psychology at one point..   Bolton were playing in a final to get into the premiership and were losing two nil, forget who they were playing,  might of been fulham.. anyways they got a penalty and were ready to bury the match, I new if they missed Bolton would go on to win..

They took the penalty missed and Bolton went on to win..

as soon as they missed the penalty I told all who'd listen in the pub Bolton had just won it..   even in extra time people were asking me if I still felt that way..   just hang on a minute more and you'll see..  Bolton scored in the last couple of minutes of extra time...  if memory serves..

Have to admit my first world cup memory was...……………………………… 1966  Cup Final !!!!!

Watched it on Nan,s  B/W tv in the front room  at Dalton In Furness. Bag of chips and Dandelion & Burdock afterwards.

1990 and as usual the Italians know how to throw a party.

The best World Cup I can remember, great games, great goals and Nessun Dorma.

Disappointing final but who can forget Platt’s winner against the Belgians? Or Roger Milla who so nearly masterminded England’s exit?

Great drama. Fabulous finals.

USA 94. Most attended WC ever (apparently) but never really caught fire, for me the games which were often played in the afternoon heat to suit European evening viewing were often laboured and leaden.

Best side and the best players, Italy featuring Baggio and Baresi, lost in the final on penalties to a largely undeserving Brazil.

It was summed up for me by Diana Ross’s penalty in the opening ceremony.

Baggio (pictured) sublime genius.

I have no real memories- aside from being allowed to watch it at school in 2002- the school made us all bacon baps and set the big screen up in the gymnasium. Not being a sport fan I’m afraid I can’t even remember the outcome.

Iv never followed any sport of any kind and barely know the rules of football, but this WC Iv decided I’m going to watch all the England   and Sweden (wife is Swedish) matches and see if I can get into it.

Same for me Mick.

Nessum Dorma still sends a tingle up my spine.

I did the Panini sticker book for Espana 82 but the first one I really got into was Mexico 86.

i'm an early 80's bloke so i'm not sure what mey earliest WC year memory would be (probably 1990) but thinking back i can remember that one time we lost.

then the next time we lost.

then the next time we lost.

after that we somehow lost again,

then the next time we went and lost for some reason?

then again we went and lost.

lastly for some strange reason we lost yet again?

this time i think we may lose once more?

could i be wrong?
