Just to chuck a spanner in :-) if is a car Derived van you are only subject to normal car restrictions  Corsa vans, Astras etc !!!!

Yes and no.. some newer car derived ones are under new rules i.e if the gross vehicle weight is 2t or over it comes under the speed restrictions

Having run and managed light commercials the mid 70s Escort/Astra type vans have always been 50/60 on normal roads.

 

In the south west some years ago they had a speed camera with a separate high sensor,  so cars could pass below and not be flashed but a taller vechicle which are likely to be HGV and have further restrictions were flashed.   Friend driving a 44 tonner on the A38 in a stream of traffic got done with that.  

 

I used to tell my drivers max speed was 60 mph on dual CW and MW,  50 otherwise except in built up areas.  Had very few convictions, maybe 4 or 5 in 30 years on running up to 9 vans.

Got done for 60 on single carriage way three years ago if I had been doing 57 I’d have been fine !

Only recently discovered about the lower speed limits and amazed as there is almost no evidence of lower speed limits being adhered to or even close to. Loads of panel vans are doing 80 on duals.

Can you elucidate? Was it a static camera clocked you at over 60 and subsequently the picture showed you were in a commercial vehicle so you got done for that?

Mobile camera van !

Those and most of the yellow Specs or Vector cameras are linked via ANPR to the DVLA and can automatically tell the type and class of vehicle therefore they can apply the appropriate speed limit instantly!
