when is late too late ?

Recommended Posts

if i get busy is there still time to season logs for next year ?

nice sunny windy spot to stack them up loosely

mostly birch and willow

usually cut to 18 inches and split everything at least once

make much difference if i cut them shorter ?

assuming of course weather gets back to normal

no rain here for ages

thanks

I'd have thought so, it's amazing how quickly they dry once split with decent air flow around them and especially the species you have, if it was oak I'd probably think not.

Next year - 2019?  God yes; I've got plenty to split yet that I'll be selling dry late winter 2018/19.

Easily. Split now and stored away properly, with decent air flow, it'll be lovely and ready to burn by Christmas, if not before.

Birch will definitely dry, Willow might take a bit longer if it's from near water.

If its for your self you godda burn what you have . I would get it split and in the log store as soon as . You can always put logs arround the stove and keep doing this as you go .

I stacked some in my log stores yesterday. Been down 6 months or so, but only processed recently. I've got most of it in a north facing log store, but a bit in a south facing log store! Not sure how much difference this will make.

Really I should move it to my seasoning polytunnel I suppose, but I don't want to handle it again if I can help it...
