Will we require a felling license

Hi the father in laws own a few acres of land and 25-30 yrs ago planted Norway spruce trees about 4000 to sell in the end we have about 1500 50ft trees 

 

do we require a license to fell a large section of about 300 of these 

also is this Timber any good what perpose can it be sold for?

Hi Paul.

 

You will certainly need a felling license if you want to do it in one hit. You can only fell 5 cubic mtrs per quarter without a license.

 

Sawmills will buy Norway Spruce. Have you got any in the region?

In addition to the above ....you can only sell 2 m3 per calendar quarter without felling license ...

The info from FC says they'll aim to issue within 10 weeks. 

 

There will probably be a restock condition attached to the licence, that might put another spanner in the works depending on why you want to clear the trees.

 

As far as marketing the timber, see if you can track down a local forestry contractor, they'll probably know who might be interested.  Where are you?

Hi we have never had a felling licence through in ten weeks last one was 5 1/2 months if your tilhill or euroforest it may be ten WK but tilhill and euroforest proberbly apply for several every WK .

Yeah, fair comment.  I think the FC will emphasise the "aim" part of their statement.

And if you are actually F.C. and do a clear fell you then have fine yourself for not applying for a license ! which is what happened around here a few years back

Does this licence apply if its a domestic garden?
