God- no wonder this industry is struggling - I was getting £125 a day climbing ten yrs ago , now with my extras I wouldn't get out of bed for the rates offered now - stop running this industry down the pan , We aint disposable items - K

Everybody values their time and skill sets differently, I pay people different rates to do the same job based their efforts, skill sets and attitudes.

 

Look after the good ones and they’ll help you out whenever you need it or they’ll stick around, under value them at your peril.

groundy rates should be based on regional house prices - so in Birmingham you won't need as much as Guildford. Save up and move to Burnley and buy a mansion. A groundie in Bulgaria where a house can be had for £10k should be on no more than £40 a day. The London groundie needs £250 a day to save for a deposit on a broom cupboard

I'd pay you £80 a day, if you were an amazing worker and you could second guess my every move £100, if you could go up and finish my massive oak reduction after lunch to my standards then £150. Hope this helps.

Ever need another climber for a day I'd like to prove myself for 150 a day ;D

This is so true.. Its amazing that the same person can travel around the country and be paid different rates for doing the exact same thing.....

90% of the time a groundie is picking up sticks and putting them into a machine. That's why the pay is low for them.

If you're not getting enough money, change what you do, or who you do it for, get tooled up, mechanise.

 

There's still good money in this, it's harder to get than 30 years ago, for sure.

True, I see a big difference in the type of work out there and the standard of service/ quality of the finished product. If you want your guys to be smart, polite and actually capable of undertaking an aerial rescue and then administering first aid to someone suffering from what could be severe trauma (that someone also could well be you) then you have to offer more than rock bottom pay.
