Ah bugger, Terry Venables aged 80, a life well lived, full of achievement and excitement. Plus gave us the great summer of ‘96.

Always seemed like a bloke you’d enjoy a beer with.

I was born in 63, so grew up in the 70s, 25 years after the end of the Second World War (think 1999 to now for perspective)

Anti German sentiment was widespread and accepted.

Men like Beckenbauer and the West German football team with players like Muller, Gunter Netzer, Paul Brietner certainly helped us view the Germans more as people like us rather than pantomime villains.

They didn’t have to keep winning titles though!

Still on late night radio until late last year apparently. That's some devotion.
