PTO chipper

I am looking to purchase a PTO chipper in the next couple of weeks. 5 inch max capacity would be ideal, no need for anything bigger. It will not be for commercial use - the machine will be used to keep a private 55 acre woodland neat and tidy, getting rid of brash from thinned out areas and dealing with windfall, etc. Tractor has 38hp at the PTO.

The Woodland Mills WC68 chipper looks very good value, has its own hydraulics for the feed roller, and comes with a 3 year warranty. It is made in China but lots of folk here on Arbtalk have good things to say about their sawmills which I presume are also Chinese made.

The Canadian made Wallenstein BX52 is similar-ish money but has no hydraulic feed roller.

Please get in touch if you have any experience of above or any advice on alternatives, and if you have a decent PTO powered machine you are thinking of selling for circa £3k please let me know.

I've seen older Jensen/Wessex machines sell for around that sort of money. They're good solid pieces of kit.

 

I don't know a great deal about them but talking to a couple of lads that have had the Chinese machines, there's not a lot of positive stuff being said about them. I'm in a similar position to you - looking for a not huge chipper to use now and again. I was warned away from them.

From a wildlife point you would be better of stacking brash in habitat pile and keeping you money in your pocket for a rainy day.

Try and look around a few inches bigger than that for feeding ,a small diameter chipper is not to thrilling and a drawn out experience,If you can find a 6" timberwolf pto chipper might be worth a punt ,definitely try and find a machine with twin feed rollers other wise its probably easier and quicker to stack it up cart it away and burn it.. also some pto Chipper's are designed for biomass even the smaller models and are hopeless in anything other than straight timber.

Have you looked at the jo beu models ? They are not pto having there own engine but around your price range second hand and chip great small material... saying that if there is a small pto drum chipper out there that could work well but haven't seen one in over 20 years.. haven't looked tbh though !

I've pm'd you some details of my TP130 pto chipper, over your budget perhaps but I'd rather have my money in a TP than any of the other pto chippers I've seen to fit small tractors.

Hi, I have sent you a Pm I have a Tp 660, it's a 6 inch chipper but has a stress control, it's own hydraulics and can run on 32hp tractor and is super light.

my neighbour is looking for a PTO chipper up to 6" if anyone has a decent one going spare. Preference for one in or near Gloucestershire if possible....
