I've heard a lot of stihl thrashing online regarding the stihl bg 86. It's a model I was thinking of buying soon, a lot of people saying it's scrap husky better blah blah. Any honest feedback about the bg86?

The 86's are ok if you pull out the ergo easy start system or what ever they are calling it now and replace it with the conventional starter. If youre buying from a half decent dealer they will do it for you foc.

Why what's wrong with the ergo start system?

The ergo spring is as weak as piss and will fail when you need the blower the most, from what i  was told that too much fuel mixture was entering the cylinder and creating too much compression (kind of hydro lock) if you missed the pop on choke or gave it too many pulls causing the ergo spring to fail.

go on ebay and search for bg86 spring and see how many have been sold, it tells you all you need to know how weak they are.

The husky Husqvarna 525BX is better than the bg86 imo having used both...

I looked into battery and  the run times quoted were very low and the  blowing power also loads lower.

I have both the Husky and the Stihl. I reckon the Echo is a touch more powerful (a bit like the Husky 135 vs Stihl 181).

Not much in it with the blowers, but the Stihl is a touch more ergomic (and much more so on the saw).

With both blowers, when warming up after starting, put your hand over the nozzle end. This prevents the fan from actually moving air, and you can rev them up to warm up much faster.

Never had a BG86 spring fail on me, and I must have had a dozen over the years.
