How does it evaporate if the lid is tight and sealed from the factory?

I've had the same problem as the OP this summer, I went to my suppliers to pick up a 5l container of aspen 4, i mix aspen 4 with stihl hp super, I ended up buying 2 of them, the store was melting with the heat from the day and the drums had ballooned slightly not a whole lot, when I got home I poured it into My stihl kombi can and low and behold it was shy of the 5l mark on the stihl container. The stihl container is accurate because previous 5l Aspen amounts were correct on the 5l mark. I opened the second canister to top it up, had only just around 4.5 litres in it. I'll probably only have enough to make 4 litres of 2 mix next time. I put it down to evaporation. There's a good quality cap on those aspen containers how the hell does it leak out?

Thank you for the reply, I really appreciate it.. these things need to be discussed because what the manufacturers are suggesting is in line with the government and the epa green agenda.. every email I received was to approve a fully synthetic oil like hp ultra to maintain emissions limits over the life of the saw.. not to help keep the saw alive for longer.. there you go..

I've done a lot of research over the Internet, I bought a stihl 500i and yes it recommend stihl motomix, I can't get it for love nor money I don't know why,, another recommended oil in the manual was stihl hp ultra, but the reason was to maintain emissions over the saws working life and not the longevity of the machine. I believe the hp super is a better oil and that's what I'm running.. currently working with aspen 4 mixed with hp super. Thank you..

Yea I've gone to great trouble to find this out myself.. hp ultra is rated jaso fb that's ISO L EGB whereas hp super is Jaso fd ISO L EGD a higher rated oil.. I've emailed stihl in England germany and the US about this, they spout out that hp ultra is the best but I don't believe it at all, how can a fb rated oil (ultra) be better than than a fd rated (super) ISO L EGD oil. Its only for emissions I'm convinced .. I'd like to hear more on this but I think hp super is the best oil and ultra (pond water) is being pushed for emissions and not for the life of the saw at all.

Without a doubt yes ultra is in the motomix 100%. I was wondering why "pleasant" was recommending stihl hp super in the post. I personally think the super is a better oil and I've been looking for opinions to support that or not. That's all. Thanks for the info. 👍🏻

Why do you say not to use the ultra with the aspen 4 in your previous post and to use super instead? Do you think super is a better oil?

How long do you reckon a mix of aspen 4 and hp super would last? 2 to 5 years?

I don't think there's a massive difference between semi and synthetic. I'd choose fd over fb anyway plus it has higher detergency so cleaner engine.

Stihl hp super is rated ISO L EGD or jaso fd. Its way better than the ultra I think anyway.

I presume the obvious like the fuel filter isn't clogged? Spark plug is OK etc? That's a high tech saw and it would be difficult to troubleshoot I'd be going to the dealer and get a diagnostic done on it.

Its not crap, it might be crap in your opinion I've researched quite a bit on two stroke oils and their ratings, maybe you should too instead of your insulting comment. I'm not looking for arguments at all just honest opinions from which I've been hearing honest answers so far.. until u showed up. If you've nothing positive to say don't bother..

I'm a stihl fan boy and I'm not gone on the ultra at all. I want to go back to hp super, its semi synthetic and fd rated plus it looks a lot better for the saw than the "pond water" ultra that's fb rated and full of carbon coated pistons and cylinders.. just my 2p on it. I'm only learning myself I'm not a pro logger or nothing just want the best for the 500i she's a beauty and I only want the best for it. Many thanks for your informative post. Much appreciated 🙏

Mick thanks. It's just I heard that for just a spoonful of extra oil it protects the bottom end better. Will take the advice.. Cheers. John.

Strato engine? Is that the same as 2 mix engine?

Check out Richard flaggs videos on YouTube about the 50:1 oil and how its not adequate at lubricating the crankcase.. I appreciate all the replys thank you very much.. John.

On another note, stihl hp ultra is only rated fb that's ISO L EGB. Super is rated fd that's ISO L EGD which is a higher rated oil. Opening another can of worms here but I don't care. I'm convinced ultra is being pushed for environmental reasons, it doesn't even have any info on the bottle! Whereas super has all the info including rating low smoke stabilizer etc.. were being fooled with all this ultra hype I think I could be wrong but I'm open to correction..
