  1. Would it really matter that much between 45 and 40:1 ease of mind for a tiny bit more oil?
  2. How much oil for a 5 litre can for 45:1?
  3. What about a semi synthetic?
  4. I'm sure this discussion is here somewhere I'd appreciate if someone could direct me to it or give me your thoughts on the following.... I run a 500i ,I usually run 50:1 with aspen 4 mixed with hp ultra. I've seen many teardowns on YouTube about lower crankcase bearing not being lubricated properly at 50:1. I understand this could be opening a huge can of worms here but would there be anything negative about running my 500i at 40:1 instead? Stihl will allways push 50:1 just looking for an honest opinion from you. Thanks.
  5. Anyone any experience with the Unil brand it's called contact m. ? John.
  6. So stick with stihl synth plus then? I guess those crazy germans know what they're doing!
  7. I am also using stihl synth plus and I find it very light oil. It has zero tackiness to it. Is this good or bad? Perhaps for longer bars maybe? They claim superb protection against wear. I have come across another oil called "contact m" its made by a company called UNIL, I thing its Belgian has anyone any experience with it?
  8. At last I found a bit of evidence that puts some truth in my theory, downloaded from a stihl hk 94 c-e hedgecutter manual.
  9. I left it in the strimmer over the winter again in the same shed with no light etc and she fired up straight away next spring. Obviously the manufacturer will advise against this but it works for me.. no I wouldn't worry especially just over winter months anyway.
  10. Yes no problem, in a dark tool shed no daylight whatsoever over winter (Ireland) nothing too cold and dramatic and yea it went through the summer as well before that, again not that hot either, a cool dark place is perfect for it 😉
  11. Yes the usa one has it it's manufactured in USA , the European version is made in Germany and does not contain it. I've emailed both sides and that's the reply I got. Headwrecking really.. I actually kept some hp super mixed fuel I had left and kept it in a glass bottle well over a year ago, it still smells and looks as good as the day I made it. E95 fuel.

I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke why fix it?" 😄
  13. Anyone running 40 to 1 rather than 50 to 1? And is there any difference in performance at the 40 rather than 50.
  14. I'm sure it's only arse covering from the manufacturer, oil has been in the ground for millions of years!! Its the way they push these sell by dates, to make more money obviously..the bottle of super says made in Germany god knows if its the container or the oil! cheers
  15. Cheers buddy All the best. 👍🏻

The gains aren't worth the cost, little to nothing from what I've heard only noise. Personally they are rippers out of the box imo..

Same here she is unbelievable stock, I feel no need to. I was only wondering would it be much better, the guys I know who fitted a bark box noticed not much difference, and reckoned it was hardly worth the cost of the bark box.
  18. Hi its not that at all, I've emailed stihl about this, the engine oil is good for 5 years in the bottle unmixed on the shelf as you say.. hp super and ultra, in the original bottle.. the stabil is in the Super for to stabilize the fuel and petrol mix. The ultra is also good in its own bottle for 5 years unopened or open but it has no stabil for fuel its mixed in. I hope this explains it..

    No bother thanks. 👌
  20. Hiya the ultra is bio not the super, and no it's the petrol fuel it stabilizes not the oil, I know this from experience 👍🏻

What would it do to a 500i? I find it a ripper the way it is, would it become heavier on fuel if I ported it? I'd be afraid of warranty at the moment or anytime because of the cost.. if anything went wrong after. Cheers.
  22. I'm convinced super is a better oil going off the specs. I've emailed stihl about it both in the USA and uk and germany, All claiming the ultra is better yet they can't seem to back it up with written evidence, super Is rated fd while ultra is fb, a step backwards, I reckon its pushed for environmental factors more than anything because its biodegradable.. I've been pushed into believing the ultra is what's best. Okay there isn't a massive difference between semi synthetic and fully synthetic I'm sure.. as well as that hp super has stabil in it which makes your mix stay good for a long time. Ultra nothing. Its completely headscratching stuff!
